Nike SPARQ was started in 2004 to create a standardized test for athleticism called the SPARQ Rating to help improve athleticism focused on the high school athlete (an "SAT" for athletes). 'SPARQ' is an acronym, standing for Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness.
SPARQ Rating
The SPARQ Rating is a sport-specific assessment of athleticism. SPARQ has test protocols for six sports – football, boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, baseball, fastpitch, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball, as well as a test for general athleticism. The tests are designed to test the skills and athleticism demanded by each sport.
GRC Sports Performance and SPARQ
The GRC Sports Performance Training program will utilize the SPARQ Rating testing protocols as a way of tracking our athletes training progress as they move through our program. Each athlete in our program will at one point be tested to gauge their level of athleticism, and will use this rating as a way to improve athletically in training.SPARQ Rating Testing protocols by sport:
